Police investigating Wahiawa toddler's injuries

Police are investigating skull fractures suffered by a 20-month-old Wahiawa girl.
Emergency room personnel at an unnamed hospital reported the injuries to state Child Protective Service officials, who in turn contacted police. The case was turned over to HPD's child abuse detail yesterday at 3:55 p.m. for investigation. No arrests have been made.
According to police, ER personnel reported the case because the "severity of injuries was inconsistent with the mother's explanation." The child's mother said she was washing her car when her daughter, who was seated on a curb, began crying, acting strangely and falling asleep.
The child has two depressed skull fractures, police said.
