No. 2 Warriors go to 5-0

Kamehameha's Amber Waracka was so dominant yesterday against Saint Francis it seemed like a morale boost for opposing batters who didn't strike out.
Waracka struck out 16 batters, including the first eight, and finished with a four-hitter as Kamehameha beat St. Francis, 5-1, in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu softball game at Kamamalu Field.
When asked what pitches were working for her, Waracka said: "Pretty much everything I have: the rise, the drops, screw, curve, everything."
Kamehameha, ranked No. 2 in The Advertiser's Top 10 poll, improved to 5-0. No. 5 Saint Francis dropped to 2-3.
Waracka, a senior right-hander, struck out the side in the first, second, third and seventh innings.
"She was on," said Saint Francis coach Mark Glushenko. "We were swinging at bad pitches and she was making us swing at them. We need to be a little more disciplined at the plate."
Waracka threw 82 of her 112 pitches for strikes, and the five outs put into play were recorded in the infield.
The first base runner Waracka allowed was a two-out walk in the third to the Troubadours' No. 9 hitter. The first hit she allowed was a swinging bunt to third by Alisha Sakamoto with two outs in the fifth.
The Warriors scored in the first inning on an RBI double by Nadia Le'i. They added two in the third on Jamie Millwood's sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single by Dara Pagaduan.
"We were trying to get ahead and get (Waracka) some runs to be a little more comfortable," said Kamehameha coach Randy Tamura.
Pomai Kalakau belted a two-run homer to center in the sixth to make it 5-0.
The only disappointing thing yesterday for Waracka was her scoreless innings streak to open the season ended at 32 2/3. The run in the seventh, however, was unearned.
Waracka had thrown a five-inning no-hitter, one-hitter, two-hitter and five-hitter in Kamehameha's first four games.
