Honolulu authorities today were awaiting word on the extradition status of fugitive Reginald Carlos "Red" Pettway, who was arrested yesterday in Alabama on a $2 million warrant charging him with being an accomplice to a May 2007 slaying in Kane'ohe.

Pettway is being held by the U.S. Marshals Service in Mobile. He can either waive or fight extradition, a decision to be determined at a hearing.

Pettway was indicted Tuesday by an O'ahu grand jury with first-degree burglary and being an accomplice to armed robbery and kidnapping. The charges are related to the May 14, 2007 kidnapping, robbery and slaying of suspected drug dealer Benjamin Grajeda of North Hollywood, Calif.

Pettway violated terms of his probation for a drug conviction by leaving Alabama last May. Authorities said Pettway is a friend of Charles Lee Freeman Jr., who has pleaded guilty to to charges related to the Grajeda case. Freeman drove the getaway car from which the kidnapped Grajeda escaped from before being gunned down.

Jerrico Dewon "Rick" Lindsey, the accused shooter who is being held in lieu of $3 million bail, and Melissa Ordonez, also known as Rihanna Joy Valentino, who allegedly set up the heist, are the others charged in the case. Bail for Ordonez is $2 million.
