The University of Hawai'i said it has reached an agreement "in principle" to renew its radio contract with KKEA, ESPN 1420.

The only holdup is completion of negotiations on a television contract, athletic director Jim Donovan said yesterday.

"How the TV (negotiations) go could dramatically change the value of the radio contract," Donovan said.

UH said it is currently negotiating with KFVE on a TV renewal. "Negotiations are still in progress," Donovan said. "I'm hopeful there is an end in sight."

KFVE has held the local UH rights since 1984 and has been talking to the school about a renewal since January. Donovan said the TV deal hasn't been put out to bid.

Terms of the agreed-upon radio agreement were not disclosed, pending completion of the deal, Donovan said.

UH received approximately $330,000 per year for the current three-year radio deal that expires in June and was guaranteed $1.75 million from KFVE, its TV partner.

UH shares in pay-per-view revenue with KFVE and Oceanic, earning an additional $794,000 for its slice of PPV in 2007.
