Tennis: Nadal advances in Spain

BARCELONA, Spain — Three-time defending champion Rafael Nadal defeated Juan Ignacio Chela 6-4, 6-2 today to advance to the semifinals of the Barcelona Open.
Chela led 4-2 in the opener before Nadal broke the Argentine's serve and took control of the match. Nadal has won 101 of his last 102 matches on clay.
In other quarterfinal action, second-seeded David Ferrer defeated Tommy Robredo 7-6 (4), 6-4.
The fifth-ranked Ferrer said he was in good shape.
"I think that we players go through cycles, and at this time of year, I always feel good," Ferrer said.
Also, 14th-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka defeated Albert Montanes 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-4.
