Here's the status of some of the bills considered by the Legislature yesterday, the final day of the 2008 session:

PASSING

TURTLE BAY

SB2423 SD2 HD2 CD1

Directs the governor to acquire the Turtle Bay Hotel and Resort.

IMPORTANT AGRICULTURAL LANDS

Senate Bill 2646 SD2 HD2 CD1

Provides incentives to establish and sustain viable agricultural operations on important agricultural lands and provides for the designation of important agricultural lands on public lands.

GALBRAITH ESTATE

House Bill 2293 HD1 SD2 CD2

Authorizes the Agribusiness Development Corporation to acquire agricultural lands, including certain lands owned by the Galbraith Estate.

SOLAR WATER HEATERS

Senate Bill 644 SD3 HD3 CD1

Requires solar water heaters on homes built after Jan. 1, 2010.

PASSED VIA VETO OVERRIDE

PRESCRIPTION DRUGS

House Bill 7, HD1, SD1

Requires the state to participate in the I-SaveRx prescription drug program, which could increase residents' access to affordable medications.

LABOR LAWS

Senate Bill 2779 HD2

Clarifies the circumstances under which the governor may suspend wage and hour laws on public works projects.

NATIONAL POPULAR VOTE

Senate Bill 2898 SD1

Enters Hawai'i into an interstate compact to determine the winner of a presidential election by "national popular vote" instead of the Electoral College.

FAILED

EMERGENCY POWERS

SB2828 SD2 HD2

Restricts the governor's use of emergency powers to provide disaster relief.

UNION REPRESENTATION

House Bill 2974 HD2

Would allow workers who do not belong to a union to organize if a majority of them sign authorization cards.
