ANAHEIM, Calif. —The Angels placed pitcher Dustin Moseley on the 15-day disabled list today because of stiffness in his forearm and recalled Sean Rodriguez from Triple-A Salt Lake to start at second base for the injured Chone Figgins.

Figgins injured his right hamstring scoring the Angels' third run during the eighth inning of a 3-1 victory over Baltimore on Saturday. His leg collided with umpire Paul Emmel's foot and was jarred backward as he slid under catcher Ramon Hernandez's tag.

"Every time I make that kind of slide, for some reason I hit the umpire. It's just one of those freak things," Figgins said. "It felt like a cramp. I thought it was a cramp because I've never had hamstring problems."

Figgins had an MRI on his hamstring after the game, and has a mild strain, according to manager Mike Scioscia. The Angels' third baseman, who had been playing second regularly during Hendrick's stay on the DL, was instructed to rest it for 48 hours before he is re-examined.

"It's not really in the middle of my hamstring. It's kind of off to the outside of it," Figgins said. "I tried to put pressure on it, but it felt a little tight — a little tender. It feels a lot better today than it did yesterday. It's not pulled or anything, which is a good thing. It's just a slight strain."

The right-handed Moseley is 1-3 with a 7.85 ERA. He began the season in the Angels' rotation because of injuries to John Lackey and Kelvim Escobar, then was moved to the bullpen after five starts. The move is retroactive to May 2.

"There are a lot of things that Mose can bring to our club, but he's got to be 100 percent to be able to do that," Scioscia said. "It's pretty obvious that Dustin's stuff isn't quite as crisp as we know it can be. ... We just want to let this thing recharge a little bit, get some of the stiffness out, and hopefully he'll move forward from this."

Rodriguez made his big league debut on April 19 against Seattle, playing in place of injured second baseman Howie Kendrick. He went 1-for-4 in one game and was sent back to Triple-A on April 25.

"We know defensively that Sean has really worked his way into a good defensive player," Scioscia said. "He's going to be solid out there in the field. He's got some pop in his bat and he'll drive the ball and hit it a long way."

Kendrick is still on the disabled list, but was at Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday for a one-day rehab assignment and will accompany the Angels to Kansas City on Monday. He was eligible to come off the DL last Tuesday.
