Punahou received the top seed for this week's Hawai'i High School Athletic Association state water polo championships.

The Buffanblu (8-0), Interscholastic League of Honolulu champions, received a first-round bye. O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion Kahuku (16-0) is second, followed by Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Kamehameha-Hawai'i (9-1) and Maui Interscholastic League winner Lahainaluna (8-0).

First-round play begins on Wednesday at the Veterans' Memorial Aquatic Center at Central O'ahu Regional Park.

The tournament expanded from eight teams to 12 this year. The championship game is on Saturday.
