The wedge-tailed shearwaters are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

The birds were reported at three different sites around the golf course where they seek shelter under large bushes.

Kahuku resident Noyita Saravia says she came upon the horrible scene of floating feathers and dead birds Tuesday morning.

About 40 dead birds were found on the golf course a year ago.
