Mililani, Kauai receive top seeds in state softball tournaments

Mililani and Kaua'i received the top seeds for this week's Hawai'i High School Athletic Association state softball tournaments.
Mililani (14-1), last year's state runner-up and this year's O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion, is the top seed in Division I. Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Kamehameha (13-1) is seeded second, followed by third seed and defending state champion Baldwin (15-3). Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Waiakea (11-0) is seeded fourth. All four seeded teams received a first-round bye and begin play on Thursday.
First-round play begins on Wednesday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. The championship game is on Saturday.
Last year's Division II runner-up Kaua'i (11-1) earned the top seed in Division II, followed by O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion Farrington (11-4), Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion Kohala (9-2) and Maui Interscholastic League winner Lana'i (9-7). All four seeded teams received a first-round bye and begin play on Thursday.
First-round action begins on Wednesday at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park. All games will be played there except for Friday's semifinals and Saturday's third-place game and championship game. Those will be played at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
On Tuesday, Kapa'a (4-8) plays Moloka'i (4-12) at 3 p.m. at Radford in a play-in game for the final berth into the Division II tournament.
