Hotel occupancy, revenue up in first quarter

Hawai'i's hotels were slightly more crowded in the first quarter than the same period last year, resulting in record revenues.
According to Hospitality Advisors, the first quarter room revenues statewide reached a record high of $860 million, up 7.5 percent.
The strong performance was driven by a 6.6 percent rise in hotel rates to $215 a night. combined with moderate a 1.2 percent increase in occupancy.
The Big Island was the lone island that didn't experience a gain in occupancy and average daily rate. Hawai'i County had a 1.1 percent drop in occupancy.
Maui hotels led the state with 81 percent occupancy.
