Zoning for UH-West Oahu campus advances

Advertiser Staff

The City Council Zoning Committee gave preliminary approval today for the University of Hawai'i at West O'ahu's planned 200-acre campus in Kapolei.

Also part of the plan is a 300-acre housing project being undertaken by Hunt Development Co.

The $100 million Hunt is paying UH-West O'ahu for its parcels is helping to finance the $135 million first phase of the new campus.

The remaining $35 million was put up by the Legislature last year.

The two projects now go back to the full council for a second reading and public hearing tentatively scheduled for June 4.
