Hawaii meetings to address federal workers' comp

Federal workers' compensation will be the subject of meetings held across the state from May 27-30 by a U.S. Senate subcommittee.

U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka's subcommittee on Oversight Management, the Federal Workforce and the District of Columbia will take up matters such as recent proposals to phase out nonforeign cost of living adjustments (COLA) and phase in locality pay for federal employees in Hawai'i, Alaska and the U.S. territories.

Specialists will go over the various proposals and answer questions, including staff from the Senate Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management, Office of Personnel Management, Department of Defense and U.S. Postal Service.

Additionally, a formal subcommittee field hearing chaired by Akaka will be held 1 p.m. May 29 at the O'ahu Veterans' Center in Honolulu.
