Kamehameha senior midfielder Zane Dydasco and Kalani junior forward Tani Costa were named the Boys and Girls Gatorade Soccer Players of the Year, respectively, for the State of Hawai'i.
The award, given annually to one boy's and girl's winner in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C., qualifies Dydasco and Costa for the Gatorade National Player of the Year Award to be announced in May.
Dydasco was named the Advertiser State Player of the Year after leading the Warriors to the state title. He scored six goals with three assists this season.
Costa led the Falcons to a 13-4-1 record with 23 goals last season. She was named to The Advertiser's All-State Team the past two seasons.
Dydasco is headed to the Air Force Academy in the fall. Costa, who is a member of the U.S. Soccer Federation's U-17 national team, has already given a verbal committment to Penn State.
Previous boys winners include Kekoa Osorio (Kamehameha, 2007), Matt Terry (Saint Louis, 2006) and Kirtus Adams ('Iolani, 2005). Other recent girls winners of the award are Mari Punzal (Kamehameha, 2007), Markee Nobriga (Kamehameha, 2006) and Kelsey Baker (Punahou, 2005).
