The children and other family members of the late Della Dikito said today that the well-wishes of so many family, friends and people in the community have been appreciated and a tremendous help in coping with the loss of both the children's parents.
On April 25, Della Dikito was shot and killed by her husband, Domingo Dikito, who then turned the gun on himself.
"We really have had a lot of support here," said Blayne Dikito, 18, the oldest of the four children, speaking from their home in Ewa Beach.
The Dikitos spent today preparing for next week's funeral for Della Dikito. It will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Mililani Mortuary.
Meanwhile, Big City Diner plans a fundraiser May 27 for the couple's three daughters and one son — ages 8, 13, 15, and 18.
Walter Enriquez, corporate director of human resources for Big City Diner, said the company decided to do the fundraiser as a way to help the family.
"One of the reasons we got involved was because two of Della's sisters actually work for us," said Enriquez. "So this hit close to home for us."
On May 27, people who come to any of the five Big City Diner locations with a fundraiser flyer will have 15 percent of their total purchase donated to the Dikito children, Enriquez said.
Flyers can be picked up at any Big City Diner location, or printed from the company's Web site at bigcitydinerhawaii.com/daily.asp.
A fund has also been created to help with the living expenses and education of the Dikito children. Donations to the "Friends of the Dikito Children" account may be made at any First Hawaiian Bank. Or mail donations to Friends of the Dikito Children, P.O. Box 6133, Kane'ohe, HI 96744.
