Rainbows beat Mississippi State again to reach regional final

Kate Robinson hit a three-run home run — one of four UH homers — and earned the pitching victory in Hawai'i's 7-4 win over Mississippi State today sending the Rainbow Wahine into tomorrow's Tempe (Ariz.) Regional final against Arizona State.
The Rainbows (40-20 overall, 2-1 in the tournament) meet the host Sun Devils (58-5, 2-0) at 10 a.m. Hawai'i time in the double-elimination tournament. If Hawai'i wins, a second game for the regional championship will follow.
Arizona State defeated Hawai'i, 10-0, in six innings, earlier in the day to advance to the final and sending the Rainbow Wahine to the elimination game against Mississippi State. The regional winner advances to next week's Super Regionals.
Robinson's three-run homer to left-center field gave the Rainbow Wahine a 3-1 lead over Mississippi State in the first inning Tanisha Milca's homer to center field gave UH a 4-1 lead in the second inning. After MSU scored a run in the top of the third, Brandi Peiler homered to left field to give UH a 5-2 lead.
Mississippi State closed it to 5-4 in the top of the fifth, but Clare Warwick hit a two-run homer to center to give UH a 7-4 lead.
Robinson pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing four runs and nine hits. She struck out two and walked one. Jessica Morton earned the save, allowing one hit the rest of the way.
ARIZONA STATE 10, HAWAI‘I 0
Katie Burkhart pitched a two-hitter and Arizona State pounded 15 hits to defeat Hawai'i, 10-0, in the Tempe (Ariz.) Regional of the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament.
Burkhart struck out seven and walked two in the game shortened to six innings because of the 10-run knockout rule. The Rainbow Wahine's only hits were singles by Brandi Peiler and Valana Manuma in the fourth inning.
Mindi Cowles and Jackie Vasquez each had three hits, and Kristen Miller hit a three-run homer in a five-run sixth inning.
Starter Kate Robinson took the loss for the Rainbows, giving up four runs and seven hits, while striking out three and walking three.
Mississippi State eliminated Stony Brook, 8-3, to reach this afternoon's game against the Rainbows.
