Iolani upsets Punahou for state boys Division I volleyball title

PUKALANI, Maui — 'Iolani's Bradley Lawson last night fired 28 kills to help defeat favored Punahou, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20, in the Division I finals of the New City Nissan/HHSAA Boys Volleyball State Championships, held at King Kekaulike High School.
The 6-foot, 7-inch senior was a one-man wrecking crew, hitting from left, hitting from the right and hittuing from the middle and back row — often against a Punahou triple block — to carry the Raiders to only their second state boys volleyball title.
Lawson ended the night with an astounding .430 kill percentage. Teammate Nick Christman finished with five kills.
Punahou featured a more balanced offensive attack with Henry Cassiday collecting 17 kills, Taylor Crabb had10 and Maddison McKibbin, eight.
Roosevelt captured third place with a win over Kamehameha, 25-20, 25-22.
