DULUTH, Ga. — Honolulu's Parker McLachlin shot a 2-under-par 70 — sinking a 43-foot eagle putt on the final hole — but dropped four shots off the lead yesterday in the second round of the AT&T Classic at the TPC Sugarloaf.
McLachlin, who was a co-leader after the first round, was at 8-under 136. Jonathan Byrd shot a 66 to lead at 132. Kenny Perry (69) and Ryan Palmer (69) were at 135.
Dean Wilson, a Castle High alum, shot a 71 and was at 144, which was the cut line.
McLachlin, a Punahou School alum, birdied the par-4 No. 3, double-bogeyed the par-4 No 5 and bogeyed the par-5 No. 6. He birdied the par-4 No. 7 and made the turn at 1 over. He birdied the par-5 No. 10, but double-bogeyed the par-4 No. 12. He made consecutive birdies at Nos. 14 and 15 (both par-4s) to get back to even par before his eagle on the par-5 No. 18.
LPGA
ROUND WASHED OUT
CLIFTON, N.J. — Second-round play was wiped out in the LPGA Tour's Sybase Classic after rain created conditions that would have forced players to compete on two very different courses if the round had been suspended until today.
Tournament officials wiped out play and reduced the tournament from 72 holes to 54.
Annika Sorenstam, Rachel Hetherington and Song-Hee Kim shared the lead after shooting 67s on Thursday. Lorena Ochoa was a stroke back.
The washout was the tour's first since the 2005 Michelob Ultra Open.
CHAMPIONS
BEAN, GOODES LEAD
HOOVER, Ala. — Andy Bean and Monday qualifier Mike Goodes shot 7-under 65s to share the first-round lead in the Champions Tour's Regions Charity Classic.
Leading money winner Bernhard Langer was two strokes back.
A two-time winner this year on the 50-and-over tour, Langer tied for 15th Sunday in The Players Championship on the PGA Tour.
