Amber Waracka followed one spectacular pitching performance with another last night, tossing a two-hitter with 18 strikeouts to lift Kamehameha past Campbell, 1-0, in the DataHouse Softball State Championship semifinals.

The No. 2 seed and Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Warriors improved to 15-1 in the regular and postseason and will face No. 1 seed and O'ahu Interscholastic Association champ Mililani (16-1) in today's 7 p.m. title game at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

The game will be televised live statewide on OC16.

"It feels great, our team is so amazing," said Waracka, a senior right-hander who has signed to play for the University of Hawai'i at Hilo next season. "I was cut from the team in the seventh grade, and now I'm playing on a team that can win the state championship ..."

Kamehameha is in its first state title game since 2003 largely because of Waracka, who pitched a four-hitter with 17 strikeouts and one walk in Thursday's 10-inning, 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Moanalua.

Last night, she allowed only a fifth-inning single to left field by freshman Nicole Arata and a seventh-inning infield single by another freshman, pinch hitter Colette Black. She again walked only one batter, in the third.

"I knew she could come back just as strong; she was awesome," said Campbell coach David Perreira, who watched Waracka throw 121 pitches Thursday. "I was hoping we would be more disciplined at the plate, and I thought if we put the ball in play, we could make something happen. But we didn't put the ball in play. Hat's off to Amber, because she came up with clutch pitches again."

Unlike Thursday, Waracka had the benefit of an early lead after Shaleese Javillo was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the first inning, advanced to second on Jamie Millwood's single to center field, took third on Pomaika'i Kalakau's fielder's choice grounder and scored on a delayed steal.

But that would be it as far as offensive support, as Campbell senior right-hander Bre Patton finished with a two-hitter in shutting out the Warriors over the final five innings.

Arata stole second in the fifth but was stranded after a pop-up to shortstop and a strikeout, and Black also stole second in the seventh after reaching with one out on a tricky grounder that deflected off Waracka's glove and was fielded and thrown wide by the second baseman.

But Waracka ended the threat with two strikeouts, the fifth time she struck out the side.

"I think she had better command tonight," Kamehameha coach Randy Tamura said. "Last night, she struggled a couple times. But we still were fortunate to win tonight. Campbell is a hell of a team."

MILILANI 16, WAIAKEA 4

The Trojans (16-1) continued their stunning hitting barrage, rapping out 24 hits to trounce the Big Island champion Warriors (12-1) and reach their fourth straight state championship game.

In two tournament games, including Thursday's 20-1 quarterfinal victory over Maryknoll, the Trojans have produced a staggering 36 runs on 46 hits and have scored in 12 out of 13 innings.

Their team batting average of .667 the past two days includes 10 doubles and two home runs.

"I've never seen anything like it," said Mililani coach Rose Antonio, who has coached in the Trojans' program for 11 years. "The kids are seeing the ball really well."

Mililani again got things started early last night, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Courtney Senas scored on Jaimee Aiwohi's single to right field. The Trojans then scored six runs on seven hits in the second, including Makani Duhaylonsod's two-run single to left, RBI doubles by Glenelle Nitta and Celina Garces, and Kristi Oshiro's sacrifice fly to left.

Waiakea closed to 7-2 in the bottom of the second after Leah Napeahi's two-run single to right-center, then cut it to 7-4 in the third after an error and Kassandra Ortiz-Wong's RBI single to right.

"We just had to keep our composure, stay together and not give up," said Duhaylonsod, Mililani's senior starting pitcher. "We really want this (championship), harder than we ever did before."

The Trojans responded with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to make it 10-4, then exploded again for six runs on six hits in the seventh to put the game away.

"Once their momentum picks up, it just keeps gaining," Waiakea coach Bo Saiki said. "They're an excellent team, and it's going to take somebody really good to shut them down."
