Workshops set for former Molokai workers

Advertiser Staff

In an effort to address the recent layoffs on Molokai brought about by the closing of Molokai Ranch, the Maui County Office of Economic Development is hosting a series of workshops and sessions for residents of Molokai on basic entrepreneurial principles.

The first in the series will be held May 28 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Kuhao Business Center. "Creating Your Own Business on Molokai" will include five 45-minute breakout sessions by the various partners of the Center; participants can choose to attend any or all of the sessions, which will be offered every hour. Individualized counseling and other detailed workshops will be available.

The five breakout sessions include:

  • "Outside the Box Business Opportunities" – Brainstorming session presented by Maui SCORE counselors Richard Kehoe and Brian Thomas

  • "Starting a Business in Maui County," presented by Anna K. Ribucan of the Maui County Business Resource Center and Annette Pauole-Ahakuelo of the Kuhao Business Center

  • "Basic Home and Business Financial Strategies," presented by Helen Wai of Helen Wai, LCC

  • "How to Write a Business Plan," presented by Susie Thieman of MEO's Business Development Corp.

  • "Grant Opportunities & Grant Writing," presented by Deidre Tegarden of the Office of Economic Development and Stuart Funke-d'Egnuff of Tri-Isle Resource Conservation & Development Council, Inc.

For more information, or to register for the workshops, call the Kuhao Business Center at 808-553-8100. Walk-ins are also welcome.
