Viewers getting extra dose of 'Scary Girl'
By Jeff Chung
Fans of the TV series "Scary Girl" may be happy to hear that our new schedule starting this week will air the TV series three days — Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 7:45 p.m. — rather than twice weekly.
The drama series runs Mondays through Fridays in Korea. We had been airing two episodes back-to-back on Fridays and Saturdays to make an hourlong show. Starting this week, you will be able to watch additionally on Sundays at 7:45 p.m.
Sunday's schedule will continue with "Happiness" at 6:30 p.m. Previously, a second "Happiness" episode aired at 7:45 p.m. Starting tonight, just one episode of "Happiness" will air weekly.
Daily drama series such as "Scary Girl" tend to run for many episodes (sometimes more than 200 episodes) and have consistently garnered high ratings in Korea.
Daily series have, over the years, proven to be popular with Hawai'i viewers as well. Since its original format is 30 minutes, coupling two episodes for hourlong programming has proven to be a popular format on KBFD. Compared in proportion to one-hour drama series, half-hour series dramas typically pack in more dialogue. And more dialogue tends to make the scenes go by quickly, leaving the viewer wanting more.
In Korea, the format of showing "Scary Girl" Mondays through Fridays has fans watching every day of the work week, keeping up with the storyline on a daily basis as if they were looking into another family's personal life. Still, the storyline has issues of day-to-day life in Korea that many can relate to.
Another update for drama fans: The "start over" function has been implemented for Oceanic Cable Digital viewers of KBFD channel 82. If you have missed the beginning of your favorite drama because of evening traffic or other reasons, you can simply press "select" on your remote twice and the program under way will start from the beginning. The "start over" option works only on the current program schedule. So, if your favorite drama airs from 7:45 to 9 p.m., you will be able to implement the option only before 9 p.m. Once that time has passed, the "start over" option may be used for the 9 p.m. program. Also, you must be an Oceanic Cable Digital subscriber with a digital box to use this option.
