Longs Drug Stores Corp., the largest operator of drug stores in Hawai'i, said it will collaborate with Google Inc. on a service that allows pharmacy customers to import their prescription information into Google Health and share information with providers and doctors of their choosing.

"With patients having more options and better access to their medical records and medication history, they can better coordinate their care with their doctors and healthcare providers," said Longs Drugs Senior Vice President Mike Laddon in a press announcement.

Longs, which operates 514 retail pharmacies in the Western U.S., said it will be one of the first pharmacies to participate in Google Health. The venture was launched Monday as Google and partners try to demonstrate the value of sharing data between patients and providers. Google said users can store, organize and manage their medical records and personal health information online.
