Kuhio among nation's best restored beaches

Advertiser Staff

The American Shore and Beach Preservation Association has chosen Kuhio Beach for its 2008 Best Restored Beach Award.

The beach shares the honor with five others across the country.

Kuhio Beach underwent a $475,000 beach restoration project in 2006, in which 10,000 cubic yards of sand were pumped onto the shoreline from 2,000 feet offshore. The sand widened the beach by as much as 40 feet.

The Best Restored Beach Award started in 2001. Past award winners include Panama City Beach in Florida, San Diego Beach and the beaches of South Padre Island in Texas.
