Biofuels program meeting today

The state's effort to develop a renewable biofuels program will kick off today in the state Capitol auditorium.
The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. and is open to the public. The state is trying to develop a biofuels program as part of its goal of boosting energy self-sufficiency. Officials are considering such questions as how the state should go about encouraging research, development, testing and deployment of renewable biofuels technologies and the production of biomass crops.
The meeting will look at trends and projections as well as what biomass can be grown in Hawai'i, and related issues, including land, water, crops and conversion technologies. The meeting is scheduled to end at 4:30 p.m.
