Sacred Hearts Academy junior Michelle Galvez's essay on health and wellness in the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community was chosen to be the youth grand prize winner of the Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organization's (AAPCHO'S) 20th Anniversary National Essay Contest.

She was awarded a free trip to Washington, D.C., including round trip tickets and lodging for two, $1,000 cash, two seats as a guest of honor at AAPCHO's 20th Anniversary Gala, and an essay showcase featured on AAPCHO's website, AAPCHO.org.

During her stay in Washington, she was able to meet the nationwide executive directors of APPCHO and share her ideas about the Asian health community.

During the gala she was awarded with a plaque of recognition in winning the essay contest. She delivered her essay to the entire APPCHO staff and audience of more than 160 people.
