State Sen. Ron Menor this morning pleaded no contest to a charge of drunken driving and was immediately sent to O'ahu Community Correctional Center to serve a 48-hour jail term.

Menor, 52, D-17th (Mililani, Waipi'o), was arrested 12:30 a.m. April 27 on the H-1 near the Lunalilo on-ramp on suspicion of drunken driving, police said. Menor blamed the incident on a faulty contact lens and a broken foot.

Menor issued a statement after the arrest saying he was driving slowly because he lost both contact lenses and was using a single, older one.

Menor failed a breathalyzer test and was asked to perform a field sobriety test, which he refused, police said. Menor also declined to submit to an intoxilyzer test or allow police to take a blood sample.

Menor was charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicant and released on $500 bail.
