TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"The Andromeda Strain" conclusion, 6-8 p.m., A&E. If you missed the first half of this terrific mini-series, catch the rerun at 7 p.m. and skip the rest of this paragraph. In the opener, a satellite crashed in Utah, releasing a virus that killed almost everyone. Scientists huddled underground, seeking a solution. Tonight, there are a few excesses. Some sci-fi parts get too offbeat; one long action scene seems misplaced from "The Poseidon Adventure." Mostly, though, this is great drama, beautifully played by Benjamin Bratt, Eric McCormack and more. Political schemes are juggled with science and medicine. Like "House," we savor it, even when we don't understand it.
OF NOTE
"According to Jim," 7:30 p.m., ABC. Ever wonder how these lumpy TV guys end up with beautiful wives? We're not surprised to learn Jim made a deal with the Devil. Or that Satan's played by James Lipton. Prior to the Jim-and-Satan tale, a 7 p.m. episode has Jim fretting about whether Cheryl will ever end her bed rest.
"Moment of Truth," 7 p.m., Fox. This cruel and wretched game show was, alas, a ratings hit. Tonight, it begins a summer spot, for more nastiness.
"Frontline/World: Crimes at the Border," 9 p.m., PBS. Lowell Bergman views the business of smuggling people into the U.S. He includes a border guard who pleaded guilty to receiving more than $100,000 in bribes.
"Independent Lens: New Year Baby," 10 p.m., PBS. Socheata Poeuv knew more about the Jewish Holocaust than she did of the genocide that shattered her parents' lives. In this involving film, she takes her parents back to Cambodia and learns secrets.
"Boston Legal," 9 p.m., ABC. Mare Winningham plays someone seeking advice on how to kill a child killer.
