Jellyfish influx appears to be small this month

It looks like tiny box jellyfish, which pack a power sting, may be taking a break from their monthly influx into near shore waters.
Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department, said an early morning count showed 32 of the marine jellies along Waikiki Beach, none at Hanauma Bay and zero along North Shore beaches.
Despite the small influx, six people had reported being stung at Sandy Beach by about 9:15 a.m., Cheplic said.
"School is out for a lot of folks and there seems to bee a higher concentration of people in the water at Sandy Beach," Cheplic said.
Nonetheless, it looks like this month's influx will be smaller than usual, Cheplic said.
Typically, the jellies begin washing up on shore about 10 days after a full moon. The influxes usually last about three days.
If you're allergic to jellyfish stings use caution before going into the water and check with a lifeguard.
