Next September, the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii will observe the 750th Shinran Shonin Memorial as well as the mission's 120th anniversary.

To kick it off, a proclamation ceremony will be made Dec. 21 with Bishop Thomas R. Okano delivering a special message from Koshin Ohtani, the head of the Jodo Shinshu Nishi Hongwanji sect. Afterward at the Betsuin Social Hall will be a Q&A session with activities scheduled for children.

Also scheduled: an Ohana Conference for Sept. 5 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village with Ohtani and his wife, as well as a commemoration banquet. A memorial service for Shinran Shonin will be Sept. 6 there, as well.
