Hawaii Marines celebrated the 223rd birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps with a uniform pageant and cake-cutting this morning at Marine Corps Base on Kane'ohe Bay.

Marines dressed in uniforms and carried weaponry reflecting different eras in its history while the Marine Corps Pacific Band played historical songs.

The Marines talked about the battles that were fought throughout history, and the values that tie Marines from different generations together.

A birthday cake was cut during the ceremony, in which the oldest Marine passes the cake to the youngest Marine to symbolize the passing of traditions to the next generation.
