20-foot surf expected by tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

A new northwest swell will arrive late today and build quickly overnight, the National Weather Service said.

This swell will peak Thursday with surf along north-facing shores likely exceeding the advisory level of 15 feet. The largest set waves on Thursday will likely reach 20 feet or greater, forecasters said.

This swell will gradually subside into the weekend. Surf heights and consistency along south facing shores will continue to lower through the period. East facing shores will see modest amounts of decreasing trade swell over the next few days.

As for today, surf along north-facing shores will be increasing to 5 to 7 feet this afternoon.

Surf along east-facing shores will be 3 to 6 feet through today.

Surf along south-facing shores will diminish to 2 to 3 feet.

Surf along west-facing shores is expected to rise to 3 to 5 feet this afternoon.
