Crews still at water-main break in Makaha Valley

Advertiser Staff

Board of Water Supply crews just completed repairing the waterline and are in the process of attempting to restore water service.

The water main broke about 1:30 a.m. today near 84-680 Kili Drive in Makaha Valley, police said. If everything goes well, water service should be restored by midnight, said Tracy Burgo, a Board of Water Supply spokeswoman.

Customers on the lower floors of the Makaha Valley Towers have water service now, but other residents can obtain water from a water wagon on site.

Traffic still is being diverted onto Ala Mahiku Street and Makaha Valley Road.

The 16-inch water main broke beneath a section of the road between Ala Mahiku Street and Huipu Drive, causing a huge sinkhole, Burgo said.

Kili Drive, between Farrington Highway and Huipu Drive, is closed to traffic, Burgo said.
