GOING VEGAS |
Denmark native Peter Eastgate outlasted Ivan Demidov from Russia to become this year's World Series of Poker main-event champion. Eastgate, who pocketed $9,152,416, is now the youngest winner ever at just 22, the distinction formerly held by Phil Hellmuth, who won the event at age 24. Demidov took home $5,809,595 for second.
On the final hand, Eastgate's ace-to-five straight beat Demidov's two pair, 4s and 2s. This final was the first to be played after a delay (117 days), in order for it to be aired closely after the event's conclusion; Eastgate's victory was shown on ESPN within 24 hours of the result.
NEW CARD: Boyd Gaming has introduced the "B Connected" players card, which allows points to be earned and redeemed at its downtown Las Vegas properties, along with the Orleans, Suncoast, Sam's Town and Gold Coast, as well as non-Nevada properties in Louisiana, Mississippi, Indiana, and Illinois.
STOMPING OFF: "Stomp Out Loud" will conclude its run at Planet Hollywood on Jan. 4. In the meantime, the adjacent Hawaiian Tropic Zone is offering show-ticket holders a 2-for-1 deal on entrees through Nov. 26.
Q. Can you explain the game Quick Quads?
A. Quick Quads is a new Triple/Five/Ten Play video poker game from IGT and Action Gaming that has just gone into about a dozen Las Vegas casinos.
This game requires a six-coin bet (as opposed to the usual five coins) per line. The giveback is that if you have 3-of-a-kind and the ranks of the fourth and fifth cards add up to the rank of the trips, you get paid for "quads." That is, for hands like 99954, 88844 and 33321, you get paid the substantial bonus you get for making 4-of-a-kind.
