CFB: Utah State fires football coach

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State fired football coach Brent Guy on Monday with one game remaining in his fourth season.
Utah State, 2-9 this season after a loss to Louisiana Tech, is 8-38 since Guy took over as coach in 2005.
Athletic director Scott Barnes said Monday that he asked Guy to step down at the end of the season. Guy will coach the Aggies in the season finale Nov. 29 at home against New Mexico State.
Barnes said the Aggies have made progress during Guy's tenure, but the improvements have not translated into wins and Barnes felt a change was needed.
Utah State went 3-8 in Guy's first season, then fell to 1-11 in 2006. The Aggies were 2-10 last year and can do no better than 3-9 in Guy's final season.
