Hualalai resort best in Zagat survey

The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai has been named the No. 1 large resort in Zagat's 2009 U.S. Hotels, Resorts & Spas Survey. The resort on the Kona-Kohala Coast of the Big Island features 243 guest rooms, including 31 suites.
The results of the survey are included in a new guide published by Zagat, which also named Hawai'i as among the top leisure venues in the country.
HONOLULU, LAHAINA HOLIDAY FAVORITES
Honolulu and Lahaina rank among the most popular destinations for Christmas, according to a review of hotel and package bookings on www.Orbitz.com.
The online site said Honolulu ranked No. 4 for getaways during the Christmas holiday, up from 13th last year.
It said Lahaina wasn't ranked last year but shot up to ninth place this year.
AGENTS SAY HAWAI'I A TOP DESTINATION
Hawai'i ranked highly as a top domestic and warm-weather destination in a recent survey of travel agents by American Express Travel.
The company conducted an online poll of 1,100 of its agents in the U.S. in late October, asking them a variety of questions, including which locales were the best in the U.S., international, warm-weather and cold-weather.
Hawai'i, No. 1 in the warm-weather category last year, slipped to No. 3 this year behind Miami and Orlando.
Honolulu was the third-best domestic location as voted by the agents. It trailed New York and Miami.
HAWAIIAN HOLDINGS PLANS WEBCAST
Hawaiian Holdings Inc., the parent company of Hawaiian Airlines, said it will webcast a presentation by Chief Financial Officer Peter Ingram at the Imperial Capital Global Opportunities Conference at the Hilton New York Hotel.
The presentation is scheduled tomorrow at 3:15 a.m. Hawai'i time. Hawaiian said the talk can be accessed through its www.hawaiianair.com Web site. For those who miss the live presentation, it will be archived for listening at a later time.
NEW DEGREE AT UH MEDICAL SCHOOL
The John A. Burns School of Medicine will offer a Master's in Public Health degree in Health Policy and Management beginning in the fall of 2009.
The school said the new degree program is designed to give students the knowledge and skills to develop, analyze and advocate for health policies that improve the health and well-being of individuals and populations.
The school said priority will be given to applications it receives by Jan. 15, 2009. The school said it also offers Master's in Public Health specializations in epidemiology and the social and behavioral health sciences as well as a Doctorate in Public Health focused on translational and community-based research.
TOP TECH ENTREPRENEUR RECOGNIZED
The Hawaii Venture Capital Association will announce its first technology entrepreneur of the year award winner on Friday.
The group also will acknowledge several entrepreneurs for their "hard work and dedication to making Hawai'i a better place." The event is set for 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Plaza Club and will also feature a talk by Peter Cooper of Better Place, a company building electric vehicle recharge networks.
