Students in grades 3 to 12 on all islands can now send in entries for the 10th annual 2009 Star Poets Contest.

Windward Community College and Starbucks Coffee sponsor the contest. Entry forms are available at www.windward.hawaii.edu/poets.

Students may enter up to five poems on any topic as long as each poem doesn't exceed 20 lines. However, students with multiple entries will be judged on their body of work. The 2008 winning poems are available for viewing online at the college's Web site, www.windward.hawaii.edu/poets.

The deadline for submissions is Jan. 26, 2009. Mail entries to: Star Poets Contest, Windward Community College, 45-720 Kea'ahala Road, Kane'ohe, HI 96744. Student winners at every grade level and their schools will receive cash awards and have their poems recognized in the Star Poets Journal and online as well as in an awards ceremony and reading in May. Prizes include $50 to the top five winners in each grade and $150 to winning schools.
