Make a beautiful holiday wreath the affordable way
Gannett News Service
Want a gorgeous wreath but aren't willing to spend a fortune? Here are tips for creating one inexpensively:
Keep an eye out for sales at craft stores. Big sales usually are held after the holidays, but occasionally you can catch one before.
Go to garage sales. Sometimes folks sell boxes full of holiday-themed craft supplies for next to nothing.
Look in the backyard. Consider using fresh leaves from colorful plants such as crotons and bougainvilleas.
Check out the dollar store and Wal-Mart. Sometimes you can find supplies cheaper than those at craft stores.
Go thrifting. Thrift shops might have ragged, worn wreaths, but you can take them apart and use the pieces for a new wreath.
Borrow tools. If you don't have a hot glue gun or wire cutters, get together with friends who have the right tools for a crafting session.
Use what you have. Use tacky glue, if you don't have a hot glue gun. It works as well as a hot glue gun, but it does take a lot longer to dry, says Karen Edenfield of Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores.
