    SACRED HEARTS BAND NEEDS HELP

After numerous attempts to raise money for its international journey, the Sacred Hearts Academy marching band is reaching out to the community for added support.

Late next month, the nation's largest all-girl marching band will travel to Europe for the London New Year's Day Parade — scheduled for Jan. 1, 2009. At the event, more than 10,000 marching band and dance troupe members representing 20 countries will entertain more than a half-million people in the two-mile-long parade through London.

Before this, the Kaimuki-based marching band needs to raise $7,500 more to reach its goal of $30,000, which will be used to purchase formal jacket uniforms that will keep band members warm during the parade.

While groups such as the Sacred Hearts Academy Parent Organization, Band Boosters and Carole Kai Charities have donated large sums of money, the band has also carried out various fundraising efforts.

"You name it, we've probably done it," said band director Matthew Martin.

For information, or to make a donation, call Martin at 734-5058, ext. 257, or e-mail him at mmartin@sacredhearts.org.
