PORTLAND, Ore. — Drew Hubel threw for 343 yards and three touchdowns today to lead Portland State to a season-ending 24-21 victory over Northern Colorado.
Hubel completed 28 of 36 passes on the way to his fifth 300-yard passing game of the season. Aaron Woods and Daniel Wolverton both had more than 100 yards receiving for the Vikings (4-7, 3-5 Big Sky Conference).
David Woods had two touchdown runs to give Northern Colorado (1-10, 1-7) a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. The Vikings tied the score on Hubel's 21-yard pass to Lavonte Kirven and took the lead before halftime when Hubel connected with Mario D'Ambrosio on a 14-yard pass.
The Vikings managed only a 48-yard field goal by Danny Urrego the rest of the way. The field goal was Urrego's 15th of the season, breaking the school's single-season record.
Northern Colorado closed the gap to 24-21 with four minutes left, when Bryan Waggener capped a four-play, 66-yard drive with a 10-yard scoring toss to Cory Fauver. The Bears, however, would not get their hands on the ball the rest of the way.
Waggener completed 24 of 38 passes for 254 yards. Woods ran for 121 yards on 22 carries.
