Bill Amis made two free throws with 2.4 seconds remaining to lead the University of Hawaii men's basketball team to a remarkable 60-59 victory over Iowa State tonight.

Amis' winning points came moments after Iowa State's Craig Brackins put the Cyclones ahead 59-58 with a free throw.

Brackins was then called for a foul on Amis during the ensuing inbounds play.

A crowd of 3,424 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched the Rainbow Warriors improve to 2-2. The Cyclones dropped to 3-1.

The game featured a significant rally from each team. The Cyclones erased a 12-point first-half deficit; the 'Bows came back from a 13-point deficit in the second half.

Amis led Hawaii with 17 points. Petras Balocka added 15 points, Roderick Flemings scored 12, and Adhar Mayen 10.

Hawaii stayed in front the entire first half, and its largest lead was 25-13 with 3:43 remaining. The Cyclones closed the first half with a 9-0 run to cut the Hawai'i lead to 25-22 at intermission.

The 'Bows went with a different starting lineup for the third consecutive game. Lasha Parghalava started at point guard, Flemings was the shooting guard, Mayen and Amis were the forwards, and Balocka started at center.

Iowa State went on a stunning 18-2 run early in the second half to take a 44-31 lead.

But UH responded with a 14-0 run of its own to regain the lead at 51-50 with 5:14 remaining on two free throws by Flemings.

Iowa State eventually took a 58-51 lead, but Hawai'i tied it at 58 on a basket by Balocka with 40 seconds left.

Hawaii's next home game is Monday against Prairie View A&M.
