Mini reviews of new movies from a family perspective

'BOLT'

  • Rating: PG for mild action and peril.

  • What it's about: The canine star of a TV show doesn't realize he's not really a super dog when he gets lost and has to find his way home to his little girl.

  • The kid attractor factor: Disney and "cartoon" and 3-D option.

  • Good lessons/bad lessons: Friends always help you out, even when you don't ask for it.

  • Violence: A pretty intense kid-in-a-burning-building scene.

  • Language: Disney clean.

  • Sex: None.

  • Drugs: None.

  • Parents' advisory: A hipper Disney gets back to basics in this showbiz-savvy romp that's really just a story of a girl and her dog.

    'TWILIGHT'

  • Rating: PG-13 for violence and sexuality.

  • What it's about: The new girl in a rural high school is every boy's object of desire, but she only has eyes for the pale boy with the white, white teeth.

  • The kid attractor factor: Vampires, dreamboats and young love.

  • Good lessons/bad lessons: That first great love will make you ignore a lot of flaws in Mr. Right — the fact that's he's of the undead, for instance.

  • Violence: Mostly off camera, until the finale.

  • Language: Surprisingly clean.

  • Sex: Quite chaste, save for one seriously hot and heavy moment.

  • Drugs: Not in this high school.

  • Parents' advisory: Pretty tame and teen-friendly, for a vampire thriller based on a romance novel.
