MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII, Oahu – Officials from Marine Corps Base Hawaii and the Board of Water Supply are using modern technology to locate leaks in water distribution pipes and planned today to uncover and repair a possible leak discovered here for the first time using this technology.
MCB Hawaii officials and the BWS have partnered to find and fix leaks on base, using the BWS internal leak detection team, in order to reduce the base's water consumption and conserve this resource, according to a Marine Corps news release.
Windward residents were asked recently by the BWS to voluntarily reduce their water consumption by 10 percent due to declining well levels and abnormally small amounts of rainfall. This partnership was formed in part to help the BWS achieve this goal.
As part of the MCB Hawaii's continuing efforts to help reduce its consumption of water and energy, the base has implemented watering hours for outdoor use, installed low-flush toilets in several bachelor enlisted quarters and continues to reuse water for irrigation systems, according to the news release.
