Passenger parking lot closes for lack of interest
The Honolulu Airport economy parking lot has been closed until further notice because of a decrease in parking demand.
The lot at the corner of Aolele Street and Lagoon Drive will be reopened "when we anticipate heavy resident travel," state airports deputy director Brian Sekiguchi said.
"This is an opportunity to reduce our operational costs," he added.
The lot opened Nov. 1. It was closed at midnight Sunday.
The decision comes as the airport is building a new, 1,800-stall parking structure, which is expected to open before the holidays.
