SAN FRANCISCO — A federal judge has sentenced a former elite cyclist to six months of home confinement for lying to a grand jury about her steroid use.
A jury convicted Tammy Thomas in April of three felony counts of perjury and a count of obstruction of justice. She was the first person connected to the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative case to go to trial.
Major League home run king Barry Bonds' has pleaded not guilty to similar charges. His trial is scheduled to start March 2.
The federal government steroids probe has ensnared a number of elite athletes, including track star Marion Jones and former San Francisco 49ers player Dana Stubblefield.
