Hawai'i dominated every phase in cruising to a 24-14 football victory over Louisiana Tech tonight at Aloha Stadium.

A homecoming crowd watched quarterback Inoke Funaki score his first collegiate touchdown while throwing for a career-high 224 yards and two touchdowns.

Funaki has won his last two starts and, coincidentally, is 2-0 against teams nicknamed Bulldogs.

In the process, the Warriors improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. They face nationally ranked Boise State Friday in a nationally televised game.

The Warriors' defense controlled the Bulldogs' passing game and then their running attack.

Louisiana Tech quarterback Taylor Bennett exited after three quarters. He was stifled into 11-of-29 passing for 152 yards.

The Warriors, who forced four turnovers, including one at their 1, blitzed nearly every down. But they turned up the heat on third down, forcing Bennett, usually a pocket passer, to scramble on nearly ever play.

To offset the Warriors' pressure, the Bulldogs switched to a no-huddle offense. But that offered little relief.

Boosted by strong play from all three units, the Warriors constructed a 21-7 lead at halftime.

Funaki contributed to all three touchdowns — he ran for one and threw for two — but he was assisted by an aggressive defense and opportunistic special teams.

The Warriors blocked a field-goal attempt, and forced a fumble on a kickoff return, which was parlayed into a touchdown.

Also, the Warriors forced a fumble in front of their end zone.

The Warriors opened with a short attack, relying on stretch runs, quarterback keepers and short passes. Those plays drew in the Bulldogs' defense.

The Warriors took advantage. Funaki connected on a 59-yard pass to wideout Malcolm Lane, advancing the ball to the Tech 10. Lane, who was running a post pattern, hauled in the pass at the 30, where he was hit Alex Anderson. Lane stumbled, but then regained his balance and ran another 20 yards before being tackled.

Two plays later, Funaki rolled to his right, faked a pitch to running back Kealoha Pilares, and as cornerback Weldon Brown raced by, Funaki found the end zone to complete the 6-yard scoring play, giving the Warriors a 7-0 lead.

Later, the Bulldogs drove to the UH 1. From there, Patrick Jackson took a handoff on a stretch run to the left. But middle linebacker Brashton Satele raced over and knocked free the football from Jackson. Linebacker R.J. Kiesel-Kauhane recovered at the UH 6.

In the second quarter, the Warriors scored two touchdowns in a 54-second span to take a 21-7 lead.

Pilares caught a shovel pass from Funaki and ran 23 yards to the Tech 25. On the next play, Funaki lofted a pass to the left corner of the end zone. Left wideout Greg Salas, with Terry Carter on his back, made the touchdown catch.

Phillip Livas took the ensuing kickoff and ran to the right side. But Kiesel-Kauhane forced a fumble. Desmond Thomas recovered at the Tech 46.

It took three plays for the Warriors to score their final touchdown of the first half.

Pilares capped the drive by catching another shovel pass while running to his right. He then made a U-turn, and out-raced Tech defenders into the end zone.

Louisiana Tech scored with 19 seconds left in the game after quarterback Ross Jenkins fumbled the snap and running back Myke Compton picked it up and ran 8 yards for a score.
