MILILANI STUDENTS SOLVE PLASTIC-BAG PROBLEM

Mililani High School graphic communications students Erica Kunihisa, Monica Yamashiro, Jenna Wakatake, Elizabeth Spalla, Eleanor Ko and Niki Fortune-Wong created their own solution to the plastic-bag problem. Responding to a class assignment, they spearheaded the design, production and now the sale of reusable bags made of woven polypropylene, a recycled plastic, with a sophisticated recycling-themed design in blue and green. The bags, produced in partnership with Castle & Cooke to promote green living in the Mililani community, will be sold for $4 on Saturday and Oct. 19 in front of Wal-Mart Mililani. All proceeds will help support MHS career and technical education programs.
