City Council moves bed & breakfast bill to committee for more discussion

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu City Council voted 6-1 tonight to move to committee a bill that legalizes bed & breakfasts.

In a meeting that lasted more than four hours, dozens of people spoke on the contentious issue the majority in opposition to Bill 6 that would lift the ban on bed-and-breakfast operations.

Saying it is "not a perfect bill" as it stands, the Council voted to move the bill to committee for further discussion.

"I consider the bill not decided," concluded councilmember Rod Tam. "I welcome more public dialog."

"I'm supporting Bill 6, but I'm only supporting only for the purposes of continued discussion," added councilmember Charles Djou. "It is clear the status quo is not working."
