NBA: Williams has MRI on sprained ankle

The Associated Press

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Jazz point guard Deron Williams is having an MRI on his sprained left ankle to see how severe the injury is and how long he could be out.

Williams rolled his ankle when he landed on Chicago rookie Derrick Rose's foot on a 3-pointer in the first quarter of Utah's preseason game against the Bulls on Saturday in Chicago. X-rays showed no broken bones, but the Jazz were eager to find out what the MRI shows.

Results were expected later Monday.

Williams, who won an Olympic gold medal with the U.S. national team, is entering his fourth NBA season. He has missed just four games in his career and played all 82 last season, averaging career highs with 18.8 points and 10.5 assists.

Utah's first regular season game is Oct. 29.
