Researchers from the University of Hawai'i counted more than 600 box jellyfish along Waikiki beaches this morning, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.
Another 10 of the tiny but potentially deadly marine jellies were counted at Hanauma Bay, Cheplic said.
The current jellyfish influx, which typically occurs from seven to 10 days after a full moon, is considered 'high,'" Cheplic said.
Signs have already be posted at Hanauma Bay warning visitors of the danger, Cheplic said.
He said all beach-goers should check in with lifeguards where possible at city beaches for an update on the jellyfish situation.
