A University of Hawai'i at Manoa student was robbed of his cash by two men at Gateway House early Friday morning, university officials said.
The victim of the 2:15 a.m. robbery allegedly knew his attackers, said Gregg Takayama, UH spokesman. The two men "forcibly robbed" the student in the hallway near his dorm room, Takayama said. The men fled and campus security and Honolulu Police Department officials arrested one of the men, who is a student and resident of Hale Wainani dorm, Takayama said.
The other suspect has not been arrested, Takayama said.
This is possibly the eighth robbery in the Manoa area in the past two weeks. Police arrested two Palolo men last week suspected in seven robberies near the UH campus. One of those incidents involved a security guard who said he was grabbed from behind while making his rounds on Oct. 13 near the campus. The guard was held against his will for about 20 minutes and robbed of personal items.
Students are encouraged to be cautious at all times, Takayama said. Security guards are available to students to escort them from one location to another on campus, he said. In addition 68 emergency phones are stationed around the 300-acre campus.
